Fashion Designers (May) Have Something That You Don’t ?

Many of you probably are appalled just by having to read the title to this post, nevertheless to say out loud. Who in their right mind would think that an experienced web designer devoted to the “superior art form of the future” (web design) can be related in some way with the vanity and silliness of fashion design, the industry in which apparently the biggest concern goes to finding the latest “earring trend” for summer? or in simple words being said: seriously….. to looking pretty?!

But no need to worry, our devoted readers…nonono, we at wedesignshock.com haven’t gone completely mad, but instead have the sanity to remain open minded to acknowledge and investigate ALL the fields of knowledge (including the ones you hate and under look) with the propose of always maintaining you, our followers up to date and to provoke those creative minds of yours to an awakening, that when you read a post of this nature is bound to happen when you give yourselves the chance as a designer to think outside the box.

Although this can be considered by many of you as a bizarre and almost offensive association between two professions in design that couldn’t differ more the one from the other, a comparison that to the majority of you is probably like associating oil with water, the profound investigation of each and every detail of web design has always been our goal here at webdesignshock.com, and with it comes the research of ALL the disciplines that have come to influence web design’s development over the course of the years.

Because you’ve gotta admit fellow web designers, that those of you that close your minds in a narcissistic approach to web design and ignore all other current fields of design, only caring for web design topics and your OWN appreciation of visual aesthetic, are narrow minded web designers/developers that are definitely bound to fail in maintaining yourselves in the business on the long run.

So with this piece, we’re looking into the most known negative opinions surrounding fashion design which have been fed over the years by outsiders of the industry, and in doing so, we would like to take down once and for all the paradigm in where fashion design stands as an inferior design form to web design, for being superficial  mainly because no art form should be considered inferior to any other, but instead it should be taken advantage of to compliment the profession you practice.

Hope that by now your jaw dropping and sulking in disapproval time is over blog reader. Allow yourself to release your inhibitions as we have in the investigation process for this piece and continue reading. Because after all, don’t you think that it’s a little strange that fashion design: an ancient design form that’s been present in humanity for over 150 years, is now considered to be a lower art form compared to all other fields in design?

Also don’t forget to drop yours comments at the end of this post, come’on! let us know what’s your point of view regarding fashion design in relation to web design. We know that this piece will be one of those worth debating, and we can’t wait to “hear it” from you guys….

Wait…Fashion Design???

As it happens to all forms of design, fashion design can be a profession pretty hard to define, especially when we’re trying to define the line of work in design that covers so many areas of expertise, cause fashion like web design is a versatile career that offers a number of practice possibilities to the designer.

Searching the web we either came across poor and embarrassing definitions of the matter like this one from answers.com: “Fashion-is clothing and a style that you and other people may have, or perceive to be cool or “IN” (…) Fashion Design- is creating (sewing) new clothing designs and selling, and or wearing them. Fashion shows are great to accompany your designs”; and this one from apparelsearch.com “Fashion design is the art dedicated to the creation of wearing apparel and lifestyle”, or we were practically unable to find any other definition at all.

But since we’re against any kind of information that’s served to us in a silver platter, that doesn’t display solid grounds of research or in that case anything that just sounds plain stupid…..we thought that the term “perceive to be cool” probably is not the most suitable definition for such a powerful industry that brings billions of dollars of profit every year worldwide. So the search continued, but when Google displayed as a suggested search for the term just to entry the word fashion without design, we knew that the web searching method would be a dead end, and then decided to go for a more trustworthy source that would bring the definition of fashion from a more personal and real perspective.

We then searched for a definition that came “straight from the horses’s mouth” and obtained the following description given to us by a professional Fashion Designer experienced also in the business part of the industry, and academy gifted in the knowledge of the field, who said….

“Fashion design is the design art form dedicated to the construction of clothes, accessories and any other kind of attire to cover the human form. Its areas of expertise are diverse and include all the spheres of production of a piece of cl0thing: starting off with the  creative process that abstracts a visual identity from a chosen theme to contrast it with the trend forecast for future social movements, continuing with the materialization of this idea into sketch of clothing, that will later then be converted into clothing patterns and put into production for sewing, to finally be taken out in the market for consumer consumption”(…)

And continued to say…. “Fashion design is versatile and provides a wide range of practices for those that fall into the career. It can be described as a science, a practice, an investigation and an strong economic industry, so its complete description would turn out to be a really complex matter, but having in mind that the core of it all is creating the fashion design that has lead to all of the other ramifications of the industry, then I could say that this previous description can be an ideal description of what this profession is really about”

Our Tricks of Trade are Alike?

Now that we have a better idea of what fashion design is about, let’s start digging into the reasons why we dare to compare these two fields of design….and in fact we’d like to start by convincing you of the fact that in more ways than one a web designer has in fact much to learn from the fashion designer’s approach to their profession.

Because although most web designers would say that in no way does their creation process bear even the smallest resemblance to a production process of a fashion designer, and that it would probably be an aberration to say that sewing the parts of a pair of pants together is as complex as developing a web site design, well we’re sorry to tell you that you couldn’t be more mistaken.  Contrary to what you may think, the creation procedures not only bear a huge similarity one to the other in their methodology, approach and matter, but there are a few lessons we can learn from the fashion designer’s practice.

Yeah, yeah…… believe or not it’s true! there are a few tricks of the trade that they can show you, so give the jaw dropping (in disapproval) a rest already, and check it out…

Pattern Making, The Holy Grail of Fashion Design

11-29-2011 12-54-00 PMWithout a doubt the core of a a fashion designer’s creation process of  is the pattern making, where in simple words said…once the fashionista has completed the creative concept of the clothes inspired by a certain theme that was chosen for the collection, and that the sketches of the clothes have been made, then comes the time to construct the molds or patterns (or pieces if you would) that compose the garment.

For this stage of the process the fashion designer must calculate, construct and piece together the geometrical shapes that make up the piece of clothing, this according to the mathematic, geometric, trigonometric, anatomic and material wise knowledge that supports such a process, so that a flat geometrical shape penciled on a flat piece of pattern making paper turns into a 3 dimensional shape that forms the body to perfection. Now even in simple words…it doesn’t sound like such a dim-witted does it?

11-29-2011 12-55-29 PMModular Autonomy collection from Argentinean distinguished fashion designer Aitor Throup, the Throup’s design philosophy starts with the human form and allows the garment to evolve organically, a sort of building-block approach rather than a more conventional construction using sleeves, armholes and body panels.

Likewise, for a web designer after the inspiration process for the graphic identity, and graphic design of the parts and layout idea for the website has been completed, then comes the time to take into action the design concept by developing the HTML code (hypertext markup language) that supports the design that the web designers had in mind. And so, in a plain text editor, such as Note Pad, or an HTML editor which will write the code for you, he’ll incorporate the tags that modify the appearance of text, to display a graphic, or to create a link to another page.

You’ll probably be saying…..ok all this I know, but how is it comparable to the process of a fashion designer? Well, as fashion designer constructs an item of clothing by piecing together several geometrical patterns to complete a garment, a web designer creates a website by combining the html codes supported with tags that realize the site script to complete the final overall look of the website design.

11-30-2011 11-43-26 AM

The similarity of the procedures is evident in the fact that the two end up being an analogy one to other, since they both reach the final result thanks to the sum of several specific parts or components that required profound theory knowledge to be constructed. Also, in both this step only corresponds to half of the product’s finish point.

A job’s worth

In fashion for a client, the investment of hiring a talented professional designer to create a complete collection can turn out to be a pretty large sum of money, to devote. Actually for 2011, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a mean annual wage of $74,440 US dollars for fashion designers, which is a really sweet figure if you think of it. Now, but web designers are not left behind because their pay is just as significant for the client as a fashion designer’s client, actually a website design can pay a couple thousand dollars if receiving an average pay.

Likewise to web and fashion, hiring the best and brightest design firms will mean paying a premium amount of money. For fashion designers, there is a decided advantage to being known as a trendsetter and its one of the jobs that will bring the highest income. Web designers work the same way. It’s very difficult to be the creative leader, and it’s far more cost effective for the majority of the population to take cues from the leaders, copy, and water down elements for general use.

We scale, you scale

Meet Zara, the Spanish company at the forefront of Fast Fashion, where speed and disposability are the new black. Customers visit Zara on average six times more often than its competitors, causing rival stores to dread its arrival on their turf. When Zara opened a store in China last year, one industry commentator noted “it just murdered everything around it”.

The scaling method in fashion design allows a pattern that has been made for a certain body size or a certain t-shirt model for example, to adapt and convert into another pattern size or variation of the initial model, in this sense, scaling has a huge impact on a mass production of a clothing line making it possible for a fashion company to produce the same model in several sizes, and/or variations to the first model.

While mass production lines of clothing rely on scaling for the diversification of their assembly line in the market, with the use of standardized sizes and common patterns, web designers on the other hand, build a process around framework coding where within the same framework design a million different possibilities design wise can be incorporated. This similarity is pure gold for both design fields, and boosts the probability of both fields %100, when implemented in a productive oriented fashion. The proper industry scaling can mean big bucks in web and fashion design, when the industry is being able to produce MORE at a LOWER cost by reducing the amount of deployment time. If you are coding everything from scratch every time in web development, you’ll probably be working part be unique and will have built out of nowhere, this will consume much more time, something that a fast development world can’t afford, remember ………… time is money!

Fashion’s getting responsible

PUMA and Yves Béhar developed over 21 months a more sustainable packaging and distribution system in keeping with PUMA’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Responsible design has become a household name and a must use trend in web design to refer to a web design layout being fit for all browsing devices available in the market, especially now people are using many different devices to browse the web, and that blackberry web surfing addicts seem to epidemic around the world. So it happens that the traditional fixed width design starts to be outdated, heavy and time consuming for the experienced web surfers, that’s dying to access the freshest posts on his mobile.

The layout needs to be automatically adjusted to fit all display resolution and devices, with CSS3 media queries. But this trend is not only a priced treasure of web design, for fashion has been catching on and paying attention to new needs of society, and more and more designers are using as part of their creations eco-friendly materials, manufacturing companies that respect human rights of female workers, multi functional garments that make use of intelligent materials that breath to keep you cool in summer but also keep you warm in winter by reusing body heat waves to maintain a high temperature close to your skin. Here are some of the commercial examples of responsible fashion design that can be found in the market as we speak.

Designer Mariëlle Leenders has experimented with fabric that features shape memory wire either woven into the material or added later as one or more lines of stitching. Her Moving Textiles (2000) react to differences in temperature by shrinking, creasing, changing structure or rolling up. Lines of stitching added to the basic material in certain places cause the fabric to creep up when temperatures rise. Fabrics incorporating wire containing shape memory alloys (SMA) vary in form according to changes in temperature.

Hussein Chalayan is one of the most visionary designers working in fashion today. His first UK retrospective From Fashion and Back currently showing at the Design Museum, illustrates his innovative use of materials, meticulous pattern cutting and a progressive attitude to new technology.

Formal education? … Hmmm not so much

It’s no secret to the web designer territory that most if not all of the tricks of the trade are learned pragmatically when working in the field of expertise. Don’t be offended our stemmed web development readers, because having learned your occupation from expertise doesn’t mean that you are less gifted in the in web design. On the contraire, it means that do to the level of experience that you have: you’re a quick developer whose abilities are always fresh and to date.

In the web design industry as well as fashion there’s too much to be learned that hasn’t yet been documented, and since fashion is an industry that moves just as fast as web technology, rather than experts being worried on documenting knowledge are concerned on keeping to with day-to-day developing trends. And in this way, it’s more and more difficult everyday for education facilities to keep up with the information of these two professions, because missing the mark on those things could definitely mean lost income for a fashion or web designer.

Prestigious web education isn’t yet a palpable reality for young kids eager for the web knowledge in depth; schools are still struggling with how to teach something that moves so fast. In the US you’ll find schools like Full Sail, and groups like WaSP Inter Act and the W3C Web Standards Curriculum, that will provide you with the basics and the current knowledge in the field but have trouble preparing students in future trends.

Like web design fashion’s backbone on education is just starting to take “human form”, especially considering that fashion just a couple years ago was a storytelling trait, in which knowledge of the trade was handed from one generation to the next in very simple manner.

Now, that the fashion industry’s growth has skyrocketed over the years, and that more kids dream of someday having their clothing design walk the runways someday, the academy has boosted their academic offer to fulfill the industries demands. But even so, this still doesn’t mean that fashion programs are complete enough to prepare fashion students in future and movements trends. In the fashion field there is currently much more to be learned from real situation experience than in books and lectured information.

It’s crucial to structure a more formal academic component for these two design areas so that those entering the industry have a foundational knowledge at least of what came before them.

A Fashion Designer is What?

What quality in design could any other professional of the field have that we as web development professionals don’t? Is what many of probably think when you’re suggested to associate in a work group with designers dedicated to other fields, well here come a few reasons why a fashion designer can come in handy in one of your creative journeys.

Some of the general traits that a fashion designer can bring to table like having a strong sense of the esthetic, a good eye for color and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, an appreciation for beauty, excellent communication and great problem-solving skills. But why don’t we take a further look in the specific qualities that a fashion designer must have to survive in the industry, take a look because although you may not find something that you lack in your web designer practice, checking out a fashion designer’s skills may take you a step closer into understanding why there can be such a close relation between web design and fashion.

Endless creative potential

This is one of the most necessary skills for both the student and the design fashion professional, above all the capacity for taking this creative talent and innovative capacity to mixing it the technical methodology and its progressive evolution.

Outstanding discriminative ability

This aspect involves a great deal of sensitivity to the esthetic of shapes and colors and their ability to be combined, as well as to determine the best decorative systems in each case and each realization of the design or interpretation.

Significant language skills

Fashion design is all about the symbolism and the subsequent interpretation of language, since its concept process is basically based upon an abstraction of a certain theme, so an elevated language skill is not useful but necessary to perform.

Precise calculation ability

As strange as it may seem, for fashion designer it’s essential to have a deep mathematical sense to able to construct precise clothes pattern. Something that really important also within the calculation ability geometric drawing and number precise estimation, to program and solve problems as well as the use of computers.

Great memory retention

For a fashion designer it’s major to have great memory retention of forms, shapes, measurements, materials, machine operation and trend reports, since this is a skill that is completely associated with the perceptual and imaginative level of the professional, remember that a fashion’s designer clothes sketches comes from an abstraction of a certain theme concept that the designer has chosen, realizing this task without a great memory retention would be impossible.

Psycho motor coordination

Fashion designers not only have to come up with a great design concept for an entire line of clothing, but have to then construct the patterns for these designs and afterwards assemble the clothing by operating all sorts of sewing machinery. The manipulation of all the tools included in this process, and use of the machinery involves a extremely precise handling, because if just one measurement has gone wrong, well the whole design can go bad, so for fashion designers it’s a must to have great Psychomotor skills and coordination.

Multidisciplinary professional

A fashion designer is multitasked professional that comes to handle several sub-professions while performing his own profession; as a matter of fact many of the tasks that a fashion designer handles come to be considered professions of its own. So being “multidisciplinary” and being able to handle many areas of knowledge at once is a how to for a productive fashion designer.

Commercial productivity

A fashion designer must not only design a garment that’s aesthetically pleasing to the eye of the designer or that’s innovative and a ‘vanguard, because the beauty of a piece clothing won’t matter if all it doesn’t respond to the commercial needs and tastes of the market. For a fashion designer it’s crucial to maintain the association between the esthetic, technical and commercial aspects at every time. Trend, market and social investigation and analysis is something that a great fashion designer can’t do without, times and people are always changing so psychological, anthropological, sociological and social studies are just as important as esthetic fashion design.

A thirst for investigation

The entire design process of a line of clothing for a fashion designer starts with the exhaustive investigation prior to actual designing of clothing, which a fashion designer could never do without. A fashion designer’s previous investigation could go from subjects like economy, to market behavior, physiology, technology, social movements, materials, and trend reports.

A fashion designer must not only research all these topics that we’ve mentioned, but be up to date with the latest in trends which it in itself can turn out to be an entirely huge investigation, for trend forecasting never rests. This is one the major sub-industries of fashion design dedicated to social investigation, in which after several months of society behavior observation and analysis, joined with an extensive research on human social movements and market performance, certain companies dedicated to the matter release macro-trends, micro-trends and tendencies for the following year in fashion.

And believe or not…… these human behavior trends always end up becoming reality in the near future.

Communication for Design?

As we mentioned before a fashion designer is multitask individual, gifted in all the diverse areas that include performing in fashion, and being skilled in communication and advertisement is one of the strongest areas of expertise of a fashionista, for besides well designing, sketching and constructing a garment, a fashion designer should have a great knack for serving all this information to the consumer in editorial pieces, websites, videos, live shows, showrooms and the other million ways to presenting the public fashion information.

So we could say that a fashion designer creates to communicate, fashion editorial, art direction, fashion production and blogging are some of the parts of fashion communication, one of the most traditional fields of fashion design at our disposal since the beginnings in the 1800’s with Charles Frederick Worth’s (1826–1895) designs for Elizabeth of Austria, when being featured in paintings made by Franz aver Winterhalter of Elisabeth for all the world to see, and for the royalty to follow; because since then, it was evident that the diffusion of a certain fashion can result in a popular trend, and mainstream consumer acceptance. 12-5-2011 9-14-51 AM Dress designed by Charles F. Worth for Empress Elizabeth of Austria and painted by Winterhalter in 1865.In 1864 Worth designed an overskirt which could be lifted and buttoned up by tabs. This top skirt gave a lot of scope for added ornamentation and by 1868 it was being drawn and looped right up at the back creating drapery and fullness.

This traditional art in fashion design is more alive now than ever, not just by recurring to the usual format of magazines, but has taken the world wide web to its advantage making fashion communication digital in major magazine sites, trend forecasting web press releases, blogging and virtual retailing, this working to the advantage of many of us web designers (more work for us…..more bucks $!). 12-2-2011 11-47-54 AM The Fashion Rougue brings readers the latest in editorials, look books, campaigns and runway. Such is the hype for communication of fashion design and the amount of work put into it, as well of the amount of exposure it receives, that now most of the fashion editorials can be comparable to art. alice-in-wonderland-10 It’s been photographer Annie Leibovitz’s purpose to demonstrate through the many spreads that she has shot and produce in the pages of Vanity Fair, that fashion themes can be illustrated to resemble a painting, like we said before, a work of art. On this occasion we can see how se recreates The Beauty and the Beast Theme, with world renamed actress Drew Barrymore.

Sometimes, fashion communication pieces are not necessarily being made for commercial consumption purposes but to fulfill fashionistas’ thirst for the a’vanguard, this kind of piece will exploit certain masterful garments made by a high fashion designer and come up with a theme to expose the garments. paco-peregrin-alien-dolls-1

Advantages that a Fashion Designer Maybe has on You…

Yeah, yeah …… so fashion designers are not as superficial as many of you thought them to be, their actually kind of cool, don’t you think?. But still don’t see any trait or talent that you can take advantage of or can use for web design? In other words, still don’t see anything that they have and you don’t? Well as we’ve said since we at web design don’t take information for granted.

At wedesignshock.com we thought that it be best to look further into the advantages that an industry that an came into being about 160 years ago could offer, over the web that’s is still a relatively young industry, only actually devised in the early 1950′s as a way for American scientists to transmit information to each other over vast distances.

We’re sure that this title has caught your attention by now, and probably those of you that managed to opened your mind and acknowledge fashion designers’ professional qualities through the previous piece, are once again irritated by our headers, but since this article purpose was to challenge web designers view to broaden their perspective, and consider the value in a profession in design other than their own, especially when fashion design is thought to be an inferior practice in design; well then, we’ll continue not just to establish a relation between the two, but go to expose certain features that as web designers we could take from them.

Hand Sketching a design is not a thing of the past

Fashion designers develop the capacity to perform their design garment ideas in virtual software as well as in manual sketches, you as web designers would probably say that this is a virtual world we leave in and that having the ability to perform web development is not enough but what the market requires. But being as skilled to produce a web icon design in a PSD platform, as to construct it in a by hand, while the design maintains the same quality in presentation.

Although this ability may not be something essential and of the upmost importance for you web designers, you have to admit it does give a designer the ability to be versatile and respond to customer’s demands of different working environments or situations. Fashion design illustration can walk through various fields work; here you view an example of a few fashion designers that excel in their tactics in various type of illustration work: 12-2-2011 3-19-21 PM 12-2-2011 3-24-58 PM 12-2-2011 3-26-28 PM 12-2-2011 3-22-15 PM Laura Laine is an amazingly talented fashion illustrator. She has studied fashion design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. After completing her studies she has been working full-time as a freelace illustrator. Her clients include Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, and The New York Times Magazine. Her predominantly black and white illustrations are hauntingly beautiful and delicate, but they sometimes have a rather dark or even eccentric, burtonesque feel to them. One of the main characteristics of her drawings is the incredibly fine and detailed line work, which manages to suggest a great variety of textures (fur, silk, wool, leather etc.). Further, there is a certain motion quality to her illustrations which is conveyed by the gracefully twisted body postures and the splendidly flowing long hair of her characters. 12-2-2011 2-19-59 PM 12-2-2011 2-18-16 PM 12-2-2011 2-21-06 PM The 33 year-old French illustrator Sophie Griotto has some very unique illustrations in her portfolio. With a style that mixes fashion illustration and trends, Griotto works freelance on advertising campaigns and frequently illustrates the pages of fashion magazine and sites. What makes her work so distinctive is the extraordinary use of accuarel in her sketches. 12-5-2011 10-27-00 AM 12-5-2011 10-23-56 AM Since she stepped into full-time illustration seven years ago, Autumn Whitehurst has become a star in both fashion and publishing. The arrival of Autumn Whitehurst on the illustration scene was a defining moment in digital creativity. Sure, there were talented digital illustrators out there already. However, Whitehurst’s combination of vector line work, delicate texturing and a real eye for beauty gave art directors something more: a dreamy kind of digital perfection beyond what the camera is capable of. In 2002 Whitehurst took the illustration world by storm, and ever since then she’s been working hard for clients in the top echelons of fashion publishing. 12-2-2011 2-40-40 PM 12-5-2011 10-36-10 AM 12-5-2011 10-40-16 AM 12-2-2011 3-48-00 PM Spain’s most prized illustrator, Arturo Helena Elena’s impressive repertoire and list of collaborations (Chanel, Cosmopolitan, Loewe…) shows that there is still a need for dynamic and distinctive illustrators within the fashion industry. And Elena’s art is nothing if not singular. He claims to take inspiration from classical Spanish and international portrait painters, such as Velazquez, Mengs, Sorolla and Sargent as well as the iconic 20thCentury illustrator Rene Gruau.

Fashion Designers do it all…..Do You?

What we would say that is a fashion designer’s most useful quality is being able to perform in various fields of work of his profession, no matter how different they are, in many cases if not most of the time a fashion designer must investigate, design, construct patterns, cut, sew, communicate and sell a piece of clothing, especially when it comes time to starting a business of their own. It is very rare to find a fashion designer that doesn’t have the qualifications to work in all fields, or that isn’t asked to do it so; yet, not all designers in other lines of work are able to fully function in various areas of work that completely differ the one to other, and with the same level of capacity that they would in their main area of expertise.

Sometimes, this can be the case with web designers that have a strong background on graphic design but lack knowledge or expertise in software engineering, and vice versa. Were sure that many of you may be dropping your jaw while reading this, in utter and complete amazement to such a false statement, saying things like: “….with me that isn’t the cases….hmmpf…”, and thinking that we at webdesignshock.com have gone completely mad pulling out such an affirmation. But matter of the fact is that sadly in many cases this can be true.

As we mentioned before the web design academy and formal education has yet a lot to learn, so many of now are the best and most successful web designers in the world probably made themselves in time and with experience, coming from a formal education or liking to graphic design or software engineering whatever be the case, and it is very rare to find someone that cares themselves skillfully in both fields.

Either the masterful software engineering experts don’t have a liking for design, and can handle the tools properly but don’t have the patience to sit during hours creation some logo design; or graphic designers just have a % 60 knowledge of advanced and complex software engineering, and although they are able to create the website, when it comes time to solve a complicated website engineering problem. Contrary to this situation as we said a fashion designer in addition to creativity, also has sewing and patternmaking skills, and a strong sales and presentation skill to persuade clients to purchase their designs.

A fashion designer finds the perfect balance between the aesthetic, the technical achievements and industrial production. He is a creator and a technician has to be open to society, both in its anthropological and sociological in, and the environment in which knowledge is developed to capture the custom of dressing in a constant evolution. It is therefore an activity in which they are intimately involved sociological, anthropological, psychological and social. You must also possess a remarkable ability to adapt and a great knowledge of raw materials, not to mention his work as coordinator and supervisor of all the processes of creating, manufacturing and marketing, he (she) will do it all or in its case do half and direct the supervision the rest for being qualified to do it himself.

The Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) is an innovative and highly respected non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and nurturing small business entrepreneurs. TFI plays an essential role in the growth and promotion of the Canadian fashion community by helping creative entrepreneurs to develop the business and professional skills they need to thrive and survive.

In this same sense, marketing strategies are usually part of the job description of fashion designer, and will have to have a great background in technical training, while being full of drive in dealing with theoretical and practical aspects in the creation of a market, so that it fulfills market’s demands to reach target consumers. So as you can see, a fashion designer is a multifaceted professional totally gifted in design, bust most of all connected to what we call “user experience”. A fashion designer thinks every step of the creation process in the needs and tastes of the consumer, so in this way web designers have much to learn, because even though our work is being made with the highest standards of quality, functionality, and esthetic this sometimes can be a narcissistic process in which we still have much to learn.

Fashion design wouldn’t survive without web design?

12-5-2011 10-45-07 AM Fashion Snoops is an internet portal for New York specializing in children’s, men’s and female’s fashion, with features on walkways, store display, color trends, fashion theories, and fashion sketches, pantone color management is a web-friendly and easy to navigate.

Web design’s influence on fashion design as well as the fashion industry is undeniable, you could probably say that fashion wouldn’t have survived the turn of the century without the help of web development; this statement is kind of obvious of course, as it also applies to any other mayor industry in the world. One the industries that suffered a major impact from the economic recession was fashion, since although clothes are a basic need in terms of covering or body and protecting it from climate aggression, well having the latest Fendi bag is not, so costumers stop paying attention to the fashion trends and being more attentive with their pockets.

This way with arrival of the recession also came the reinvention on major brands’ marketing plans to attract a customer whose last concern was buying clothes, and in this websites had a great impact. The fashion industry found on web surfing features like live stream the perfect way to target viewers while saving some big bucks on communication and advertisement strategies, something that in the end reduced the price on the product, and in fact renewed the confidence on customers for buying fashion. 12-5-2011 10-48-51 AM For 100 years, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), a property of Fairchild Fashion Media, has been the daily media of record – and THE industry voice of authority – for senior executives in the global women’s and men’s fashion, retail and beauty communities and the consumer media that cover the market. 12-1-2011 9-14-36 AM WORLD FASHION СHANNEL on Live stream. World Fashion Channel – Watch live streaming Internet TV Magazine websites started featuring picture by picture of every design being launched by every major designer brand show in every fashion in the world, something that allowed fashion junkies to get a front row look into the latest in trends without having to move from the comfort of their home. 12-5-2011 10-53-29 AM 11-29-2011 4-13-13 PM Actually many fashion houses decided to not even invest millions of dollars on hosting a fashion show for the public, but instead making use of web world round customer reach, and started using live stream as way to show their latest collections to thousands of viewers in the world, only using a good lighting placement a couple of models, and probably a space provided within the fashion house.

There’s multiple fashion customer reach currently available in websites, from fashion magazines, to blogging, theory in fashion specialized websites, retail oriented branding spots, and even you tube how to fashion design videos of matters like patter making, illustration and trendsetting studies, we would probably be writing a whole entire new post specialized the thousands of web spots specialized in fashion, so we settle we bringing you a recognition of the radical influence.

The elephant in the room: fashion blogging

One of the most interesting and on growing phenomenon in this love-hate relationship between web and fashion design probably would have to be the big monster in the room: fashion blogging, as seen in technorati.com, the leading search engine and directory on the web for blogs http://technorati.com/blogs/directory/, where the fashion blog stats registers up to 8805 fashion blogs in the world, a number that overcomes categories like finance, sports, pets and in entertainment those such as television, celeb and film.

Probably fashion blog numbers are not as big as for categories like Arts that counts up to 20291 existing blogs on the web, but its current presence in the industry of fashion is of an undeniable power, allowing fashion not only to be brought to the masses, but to be made by the masses. The same “Masses” which have now become influential icons of the fashion world. 11-30-2011 4-53-58 PMFashion design’s presence in the web made possible in part by fashion blogging is responsible for the democratization of the industry that over decades took pride on being exclusive and only available to the rich and powerful, which is not necessarily a down fault when it has caused the increase of the fashion industries’ income over the last couple of years.

These blogs that many gurus in fashion dislike and considered to be a growing epidemic for which the cure still hasn’t been found, have become such of a household name in the industry that the term Fashion Blog can now even be found literally in Wikipedia.com, where there is an entire page of investigation (not magnificent of course since we all know what there is to be found in Wikipedia.com), dedicated to the matter. 12-5-2011 11-16-52 AM
