A brief selection of utilities and components for the development of games across several platforms for both experienced professionals and design aficionados.

  • Derived from Glaurung 2.1, Stockfish is a free open-source engine for Chess Games with support for Syzygy Bases. While it’s not a complete Chess Program per se (requires UCI compatible GUI in order to be used comfortably) it’s still worth checking out for anyone working on building a Chess game or app.

  • ‘2D JavaScript physics engine for cross-platform HTML5 game development’

  • ‘RPG-Awesome is a free fantasy themed icon font and CSS toolkit with 495 vectors ideal for games’ apps, it can be totally customized to fit your own projects. You can change size, color, drop shadow or you can do anything that can be done with the power of CSS, it’s licensed under SIL OFL 1.1′

  • Eve is a tool (programming language and IDE) that allows developers build cool responsive games. Among the tools included you’ll find a temporary query language, a compiler, and a database. To use you need NodeJS installed and running. This tool is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.

  • An open source game-making application for Indie titles featuring real-time collaboration, powerful-intuitive tools enforced by Typescript. Outcoming games can be published on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android and of course, they run in recent Web.browsers too!

  • PhiloGL is a data visualization framework made with the help of WebGL, helping game creators and developers reach their full potential white making games and coding. It uses idiomatic JavaScript, it’s focused on performance, has all the modules you need, doesn’t use libraries and it open source.

  • One of the fastest game creation engine that gives you the possibility to design games for free, without coding required. With it you can:

    – Create games fast with no coding.

    – Test your games on Apple devices.

    – Publish your games to the App Store.

  • pixi.js is a cool framework written in JavaScript that allows you to create lightweight yet powerful 2D multiplatform games, apps, animations and more. The aim of it is to take advantage of hardware acceleration without previous knowledge of webGL. It is a 2D webGL renderer with canvas fallback that you can integrate into your projects to make them interactive and cool. It is free.
